Farm Life:
I am cooking dinner on the stand-up George Forman Grill, plugged into the
outlet next to the new well (new from last summer).  There is a big 6 foot by
4 foot fiberglass rock that is propped up over the well.  I have it tilted up
so we can get to the outlet and the hose faucets easily.  It also serves as a
mini counter-top for plates and silverware while I cook dinner on the grill.
While the chicken is cooking, 2.5 year old Gregori is busy exploring the area
for new ways to cause mischief.   He is proficient and practiced.  An expert
at his craft.  I call Dane in from the field to eat just as Gregori is
inspecting the pull-trigger hose nozzle, trying to figure out how it works.
Dane ambles over, lifts the lid to the grill, compliments my efforts and then
there is a high pitched shrieking giggle as Gregori squirts us with water
from 15 feet away!   Dane and I duck for cover under the big fake fiberglass
rock - each of us groping for the faucet handle to turn off the high-powered
hose now controlled by a crazy maniac with revenge on his mind.  Both of us
are groping with one hand and screaming in unison at Gregori, "Turn it OFF!
Turn it OFF!!"  Fat chance of that happening, Gregori thinks it's hilarious.

On a different note -    We took the "newer" truck into the mechanic.  The
breaks were squeaking.  We put a lot of mileage on it, so we were not
surprised.  I braced myself for a couple hundred dollar bill.  Two days later
the mechanic calls up and says we owe him $15 dollars for the repair - which
consisted of removing an unusual amount of mud from the breaks.  Dane and I
laugh - we got the truck stuck in the mud a little over a month ago and
forgot that mud might still be an issue.  These mechanics think we are idiots.

About 4 years ago, Dane brought in his old truck for repair because the heat
would not go off and it was summertime. What happened was I turned on the
heat to dry my hair on the way to the Charlotte Farmers Market and it would
not turn off in spite of how many times I mashed the button for AC/Cool.  It
was Dane's truck and he kept a steady supply of candy in it for when we were
in the field and he was hungry (before the grill).  He kept griping at me to
stop eating his candy - which I wasn't - so I just remained quiet and thought
him to be a little out of touch.  A day or two after we brought it in, the
mechanic showed us a blue-ish purple thick/hard liquid that he scraped out of
the bottom of the vent.  It turned out that a mouse was living in the truck
and had been depositing large amounts of fruity skittles down the vent for
future use.  When I turned on the heater, the flap moved over to heat and
melted the skittles and got stuck there in goo.  That one cost us some money -
but not half as much as when we had to have the mouse removed 2 weeks
later.  To this day - the AC does not work in that truck.  Dane drives with
windows open and calls me to complain of heat.  What can I say??  I think
having a grill on the farm is way more sanitary.
